A: Happy to help, Chuck! With most applications, a primer is not needed with Rust-Oleum Stops Rust Door Paint. If the door is galvanized metal, you will need to prime first with a water-based primer. We recommend Rust-Oleum Zinsser Bulls Eye 1-2-3 Water-Based Primer.

Q:Customers here have complained the paint is too thick. Is that what makes this paint a 'door' paint...so you don't have to take the door down to paint it? If you take the door down, would a basic enamel paint be better (horizontal surface)?

A: Thanks for reaching out Steve. Rust-Oleum Stops Rust Door Paint is formulated to dry quickly so you can mount and close your door in no time. If necessary, thin the material with xylene, thin no more
than 5% by volume. Use a 6½” shed-resistant roller with a ⅜” nap or a high quality brush with flagged (split) ends. For best results, use the roller to paint the entire door or paint the recessed edges of
raised panels and then use the roller for the remaining flat surfaces.

Q:I have a set of Iron French Doors out front that need to be re-painted (previous homeowners tried to 'touch it up' and botched the color matching). Will this product work on iron? Would it be better to use brush/roller combo, or my Wagner paint/stain sprayer? Would I have to sand the doors first before applying the product? Would I also need to add primer? Thanks!!!!
