Q:Do I need to use a primer before I paint with this on metal spindles for bannister? Will the matte/flat finish scuff easy? Is it easy to clean?
            by|Apr 3, 2024

            Answer This Question

A:  Happy to help! When applying Rust-Oleum Stops Rust Protective Enamel Paint to bare metal, we do recommend a primer for the best coverage and adhesion. Keep in mind, while matte finishes will hide scuff marks and surface imperfections better, these finishes tend to stain or hold on to dust/dirt easier than a glossy finish. We would recommend waiting at least 7 days after application before cleaning the surface to allow the paint to fully cure. - Rust-Oleum Product Support 3

              Answer This Question

A:  We're happy to help, Allie! To ensure full adhesion of Rust-Oleum Stops Rust Protective Enamel Paint on vinyl, the surface must first be primed with a suitable primer. We recommend Rust-Oleum Zinsser Bulls Eye 1-2-3 Water-Based Primer. This primer does not require sanding, and it can be topcoated after 1 hour in ideal conditions, even with an oil-based paint.0 https://www.homedepot.com/p/Zinsser-Bulls-Eye-1-2-3-1-Gal-White-Water-Based-Interior-Exterior-Primer-and-Sealer-2001/100398391 -Rust-Oleum Product Support 14
