A: It will work on flat roofs but I'd not recommend using it for a long time. Most flat roofs are epdm and not sure that salt is best for a rubber.

A: Roofmelt does not work on flat roofs as it doesn't have anywhere to drain off. It needs a slight pitch so it can drain safely off the roof.

A: This product uses Calcium Chloride to de-ice, which is similar to pet/plant and vegetation friendly sidewalk salt. So I would assume this is safe for rubber roofs. I would check the product packaging for more details.

Q:We have a 100 year old house, and it’s the original tile. Also the ice dam has oh so conveniently wrapped around our electric wire (the one that goes from the utility pole to our house).

A: These tablets are safe for use on all roofs.
Best if you can use a ladder and place them as strategically as possible.
The tossing method is hit or miss.

A: I found that theses tablets do not work well. I live in MI. I put them in the gutters and a foot or so above every 4 to 6 inches and still have ice dams.
