Q:I’m trying to add another outlet, run from another one. Is this the wire needed to do so?

Answer This Question
A: Depends on what is coming into that original outlet and where it is. If it’s an interior outlet, it may be on Romex 14/2 which is for 15 amp. Romex 12/2 is rated for 20 amp. Check your circuit breaker for a clue as to the load currently protected on that.

Answer This Question
A: It's really impossible to know without looking at your electrical plans. It depends on the number of circuits and layout of them. But for an entire house it will be a lot and different awg and # conductors for various circuits from outlets to oven.

Q:The previous owner ran 1/2 PVC conduit for backyard path lights and receptacles at the greenhouse but never pulled wires through. The HD website states that Romex 12/2 is for indoor use but I assume that this is when it is run without a conduit?

Answer This Question
A: Romex is not suitable for wet locations and inside buried conduit = wet location. You could use UF-B but no real reason to run a bulky cable in conduit as it will be a real pain to pull through 1/2". You should run individual THHN/THWN-2 or XHHW2 wires.

A: Romex is not meant to be ran through conduit because of cooling. You need to check the NEC code book.

A: Yes, 12 ga wire supports up to 20 amps. Breaker and/or GFCI outlet can be 15A or 20A. If any doubts about your utilization, contact an electrician.

A: You only need one GFCI per circuit. All receptacles down stream from the GFCI will be protected.
