Q:What if you have to run to the right instead of the left direction out of the top. Can the intake part of the Y be in the upward position instead on the downward position. Just to go to the right intake pipe has to be higher then exhaust.

A:  Hi Donald and thank you for your question. Yes it can.

      by|Feb 3, 2023

A:  I dont think you should switch the direction of the Y because the left and right go to two separate channels inside that pipe, one specifically for exhaust and one specifically for intake. If the wrong one is on each, you might end up in a situation where on the outside of your house you are pulling exhaust in through the outside of the intake because the heat from the exhaust is rising and then getting sucked into the intake. Better to find a way to mount it the way they intended or run two separate pipes as per the directions in the water heater instruction book.

A:  Not sure if I can answer your question as I returned this and used the one that is included with the unit (oval shaped) since it was easier to run out the side and not deal with penetrating the roof. I believe the Y has to be connected as shown due to the fact the the straight piece is double walled so that one is incoming fresh air and the other is outgoing exhaust

            Answer This Question

A:  Thank you for your question, It would have to be a precise cut or it could possibly cause issues like the exhaust being sucked back into the intake.

A:  The top cone can be removed with ease. It comes loose fitted with 4 or 5 parts that you have to cement together. As far as how far over your roof, I believe you have to follow the building code in your area.

Q:I installed one of these very successfully on my Rheem tankless. My only question is what keeps the rain from going down the exhaust and into the water heater burner? Why isn't there a rain cap?

A:  If you look at the installation manual there is shown a long sweeping 90 which is supposed to be for vertical installations.  I did not see it installed in the direct venting instructions which for this part but is shown for the case where intake and exhaust piping is used.   I believe not showing  this for the vertical concentric termination kit instructions is a mistake-  Call Rheem to confirm.

Q:I have a propane hot water heater. It uses a 4-inch pipe to vent. Can this be threaded through the part of the 4-inch pipe that's in the concreate that goes from basement to outside? The pipe is PVC. It says that it is for drain/waste or vent only.

A:  The vent and exhaust are seperate to the base y, then they exit the roof/wall together. How you route prior to the y is up to you.

A:  Yes!  Don’t purchase this concentric pipe.  Just purchase individually fittings to fit your installation.

A:  You might be able to use the same hole through your roof that the old vent pipe went through, but unless the old and new pipes are nearly the exact same diameter you're going to have a very hard time getting that to work. I'd recommend against going that route

A:  No.  It serves as both an exhaust and intake for combustion.  There are two tubes that are concentric and the end needs access to the exterior of the structure.
