Q:Is this rigid enough to lay across the drawer sides and be used hanging?

Answer This Question

A:  While it is rigid it may not be able to take that much weight. The molded part is the most rigid and the side wings, which are meant to be trimmed, are the least rigid. If the drawer slides are wide enough then it should be able to hang without collapsing.

Q:my drawer is 19" depth X 31" wide will two of these drawer inserts when cut fit? If not what sizes do I buy?

A:  After using these for my kitchen drawers I would say that you have 2 options. Because my two drawers are only 18 1/8" wide we had to trim the sides of the white Extra Large Rev-A-Shelf Model # GCT-4W-52 and the Model # GUT-18W-52 listed at 21.87 inches-wide down to 18-in wide to fit in my drawers. Once cut it left just a very small edge around each side. Since inserts have already been modified I can't give an exact measurement of precisely how much can be trimmed off, but I would say the most you can trim off is just under 3 inches. The actual total width of the compartment section area is18-inches wide. You can see in the Home Depot product picture there is a slight angle to the sides of the large outer troughs where the longer utensils are placed. The fact it's slightly angled makes it easier to cut off almost all of the excess side "lip" portion yet still leave the sides of the outside compartments intact. Although I did not use the Medium White Cutlery Tray Drawer Insert Model# CT-2W-52 it looks like even though it's narrower at 14.25-in wide it looks like it has a similar amount of excess "overhang" on the sides which I'd estimate you would only need to trim about 3/4-in from each side and bring the width down to ~ 12 3/4- 13-inches If your drawers are 31-in wide I think if you go with an Extra-Large like the ones I used and similarly cut to 18-in then combine it with the Med size Model# CT-2W-52 cut to 13-inch they should fit nicely. However with 2 inserts in the same drawer you might want to avoid having any overlap where the 2 sections connect. Once you get them cut to fit I would probably use white Duct tape to secure the 2 sections together from underneath (you wouldn't see the tape) to keep them from shifting. As a second option you could easily combine the Large with the Small Cutlery Tray Drawer Insert Model # CT-1W-52. Since it's only 11.5-in wide you could easily combine it with the Large 21.87-in model and easily trim off the 2.37 inches needed to get them to fit in your 31-inch drawer. Put some thought into what kitchen tools or utensils will go in the drawer compartments and that might guide your decision as well. The smaller model is geared more for silverware and doesn't function as well if you need to store larger tools. (I've made that mistake in the past). Any of the sizes will work with your depth of 19 inches because they can easily be modified to accommodate your drawers . They have a nice 3.5-inch extension "overhang" area behind the rear that you can trim to the exact depth you need. I love not have utensils getting lost in that excess "dead space" that would remain behind the standard inserts that tools would inadvertently get lost back there. Honestly I would suggest you plan to use a Extra Large and just go ahead and also order both a Small and a Medium. See where the seam will lie between the 2 sizes and how the edges will look in your space. It's easy to return the one you don't need. I'm sure this is WAY more info than you wanted or needed but hopefully it will help. Good luck!

A:  I used this in a drawer that measured 19" wide by 19" deep and it worked well once trimmed to fit. But two of them will not fit your dimensions. Try to find ones that have the same depth but that will trim to half your width (15 1/2 "), assuming they don't make a single unit that's wide enough. Hope this helps.
