Answer This Question

A:  The largest household circuit that this transfer switch can be connected to is 20 amps (double pole). If your heat/air is on a 40 amp circuit breaker this switch will not work in your application.

    Answer This Question

A:  This box mounts next to your main box. It IS approved for outdoor use. Flex conduit and wiring are included for up to 18 inches between boxes. Owner and installer manual can be downloaded and studied before purchase, just look on this product's webpage below the product reviews under the 'more info' heading. Please excuse the poor quality nightime pictures and the TV antenna mast in the foreground.

A:  The transfer switch is mounted next to your main panel and connected with conduit. The wire and conduit are included with the transfer switch. Each circuit on the transfer switch has two wires, one that goes into a circuit breaker in the main panel and one that gets attached to the wire that was in that circuit breaker. There is also a neutral and ground connection in the main panel. For a more detailed explanation download the installation instructions from this site.

Q:I have six 20 amp breakers that I want to use with this switch, Will this work for me.

      Answer This Question

A:  It's not the breakers, it's the circuits. This panel is equipped to transfer two 20-amp circuits and four 15-amp circuits. Using a 15-amp transfer switch to power a 20-amp circuit could result in overload, overheat, and even an electrical fire. If you want to transfer six 20-amp circuits, get the correct panel. Contact Home Depot or Reliance to get the correct Protran panel. I'm sure that Home Depot can order it for you. Beavis

A:  This is the best unit I have seen to do the job. Most of the time you will only need 6 breakers and it is very easy yp dp tp the main breakers.

A:  Yes, this switch will work fine. You can connect this transfer switch to 15 or 20 amp household circuits. When using the generator you will be limited to 15 amps on 4 of the circuits but this is not a problem for most users. When the utility is supplying power you have the full 20 amps per circuit available.

Q:Is it possible to direct wire the cord from the generator into the transfer panel and not use the plug on the panel end?

        Answer This Question

A:  This is not possible on the outdoor transfer switch without modifying the switch (possibly voiding the warranty). The product is designed so that the cord can be removed and put away when the generator is not in use. The indoor transfer switches are designed so that they can be direct wired to an outdoor inlet box, but the outdoor product has the inlet built in.

A:  Not really, you should get the correct plug as the wires are thick and it comes with both ends ready to go. fits generator and panel perfectly

          by|May 2, 2023

A:  It is probably possible, but not advised. Home Depot has several transfer switches that do not include the inlet connector, which would be a better choice for hardwiring the generator to the panel. National Electrical Code might require a disconnect between the panel and generator.
