Thank you for your recent inquiry with The Home Depot about installing the Reach Barrier 4 ft. x 100 ft. Single Reflective Insulation Air Roll. This can be used outside and under the deck to insulate underneath your deck. A: Dear ProjectLady: Thanks for including the photo, which is very helpful. Reflective barriers like Reach and Reflectix would be somewhat helpful for your porch ceiling if there was somewhere for the hot air to go -- like a ventilated attic. Unfortunately, these producst deliver almost no insulation R-value by themselves; only R-1.
The best option for your porch ceiling: scrfew 1" panels of polyisocyanurate foam board to the bottom of the rafters. See: Super Tuff-R Model # 268417, Home Depot Internet #100576728, UPC Code # 041343001323 Store SKU #29696
This will (1) Provide R-6.5 insulation, (2) Break the 'thermal bridges' created by all of the (previously) exposed wood rafters, which transmit hear, and (3) Block radiant heat from the hot roof above.
After you screw the foam board to the rafters, (a) carefullly seal all of the joints and edges, to block air leaks. HVAC duct sealant or DAP 230 work well for joints and small gaps. Use the 'Window and Door' version of Great Stuff spray foam for larger gaps. (b) cover the foam board with something that looks nice, e.g. ship lap pine -- which you can whitewash or stain and cover with polyurethane.
All of the products noted above are available from Home Depot.
I hope this is helpful.

Q:Can this product be used to line the inside of a window to keep the heat out, and can it be installed with the white side toward the outside so the silver doesn't annoy my neighbors?
