Q:How stable is this? I would like to put my kids' bikes on the bottom and the adult bikes on the top. Is it stable enough for them to take their bikes off while the adult bikes are still in place.

A:  I'd say no. It would be too top heavy. It's stable, but one bump could bring it down. If you were going to do that, I'd attach the top via some cable to the ceiling. We put our heavy bikes on the bottom and lighter ones on top.

A:  It is very stable if placed on a flat surface. I use all four racks and love the space it clears up in my garage.

A:  This rack is super stable. I use it exactl the same way with my kids bikes on the bottom and my bikes on top. There is no worry about it falling over and it is super easy for the kids get and put their bikes away.

A:  The rack is very stable. I have 4 large bikes hanging with no problem. My garage door came off the track and the bike rack support the door and 4 bikes with no problem. A real solid piece of equipment.

Q:I'd like to mount wheels, or maybe even create a rolling chassis, similar to a furniture dolly, in order to easily move this around my garage when I need to use different spaces. This would not be moved by children, and I understand it could make it less stable, but for those who already have this unit, how easy do you think it might be?

                A:  Not easy, must disassemble.

A:  I don't think it would be very easy or sturdy if it's on wheels or furniture dolly. However, if you take all the bikes off (which is easy to do, of course), then you can pick it up and move it quite freely.

A:  An under-slung chassis that allows the bike stand to sit low with the wheels mounted up and to the outside will keep the center of gravity lower to the ground. (Think shop creeper for rolling under a car--you gotta stay low.) A standard furniture dolly with the wheels mounted underneath would raise the bike stand half a foot or so above the ground an make it unstable. The higher above ground the stand goes, the further apart the base wheels have to be.
