Answer This Question

A:  Yes this system has the ability to record sound. It has two audio inputs in the back. You will need to purchase a separate microphone to record the sound since the cameras do not have sound recording included. Our Q-See item# QSPMIC Home Depot item#204048638

Q:what is a ccd type camera and a cmos type camera?

        Answer This Question

A:  Dear matt, Thank you very much for your question! I contacted manufacturer for more information and here is the response: "There are two types of sensors in CCTV cameras: CMOS and CCD. Cameras with CMOS sensors are less expensive and require less power, but CMOS sensors are not as light sensitive, and have lower resolution. The picture quality is not as good, and the color they produce is not as accurate, especially outdoors, where the color can change depending on the amount of light and shadow. Resolution on CMOS cameras is 400 TVL or lower. CCD cameras are more sensitive to light and have higher resolution, so you can get a better quality image and better color reproduction. They are usually worth the extra price and the higher power consumption. The resolution on CCD cameras is 420TVL and higher. CCD sensors, create high-quality, low-noise images. CMOS sensors, traditionally are more susceptible to noise. Because each pixel on a CMOS sensor has several transistors located next to it, the light sensitivity of a CMOS chip tends to be lower. Many of the photons hitting the chip hit the transistors instead of the photodiode. CMOS traditionally consumes little power. Implementing a sensor in CMOS yields a low-power sensor. CCDs use a process that consumes a lot of power. CCDs consume as much as 100 times more power than an equivalent CMOS sensor. CMOS chips can be fabricated on just about any standard silicon production line, so they tend to be extremely inexpensive compared to CCD sensors. CCD sensors have been mass produced for a longer period of time, so they are more mature. They tend to have higher quality and more pixels. "

A:  Hi Fantan, You would have to go through Home Depot to do any type of returns or exchanges. You can though order dome type cameras and use them with this DVR. I have put some suggestions for you that will work. Please see below.

A:  This is just a partial answer to your question. I purchased a 8-camera system. Once installed, I needed a 9th camera which I had installed. I got assistance from Q-See Customer Support to be sure that I was getting the right camera for my "system." Don't hesitate to contact Q-See Customer Support to get the specific answer that you need.
