    Answer This Question

A:  Hi Sparky, I have answered some questions you may have on our systems and the type of cables you can use for them. (Please note with the bundle you inquired about, these come with standard BNC Cable for each camera) What are the differences between standard video cables, RG59 or RG6? Standard video cable can only be run up to 180 ft. and can not run inside the walls, underground or in plenum spaces. RG59 and RG6 are both able to run inside the wall and are shield protected from outside interference. RG59 can extend up to 750ft while RG6 can extend up to 1200ft. NOTE: Although RG6 has better distance capability then RG59 the core and shielding is not designed for CCTV use, it is designed for Cable TV and broadband internet which uses higer frequencey, so we do not recommend it for surviellance systems. How long of a cable run can I make from the DVR to the cameras? With the standard video cables you can extend to 180 ft, anything longer would require a different cable like RG59 Siamese wich you can use to extend to 750 ft, or RG6 siamese which would allow you to extend to 1200 ft. depending on the distance you may also need a stronger power supply for the camera. For RG59 and RG6 you need to go with custom made cables. Standard Cable - 180 ft. RG59 - 750 ft. RG6 - 1200 ft. Can I use a CAT5 cable to attach the cameras to the DVR? You can use a CAT5 cable, you would need to use video baluns to attach the cable to the camera and the DVR. If you use powered video baluns you can also send power to the cameras through the CAT5 cable. You would need to use a video balun on each end of the cable, a transmiter and a receiver. If you use passive baluns you go run the cable up to 1000 ft, if you use an active balun on one end and tha passive on the other you can run up to 3000 ft, and with active baluns on both ends you can go up to 6000 ft. What kind cable should I use to connect the DVR to a TV or PC monitor? Use an RCA cable and a BNC to RCA adapter to connect the DVR to a regular TV. You can run an RCA cable up to 12ft, possibly up to 25 feet with good quality cable. You can also use a VGA cable to connect the TV or PC monitor to a DVR. You can generally run the cable from 15 to 30 feet depending on the resolution you are using on the TV, the higher the resolution to shorter the effective distance. You can also use HDMI cable if you have a HD TV. With HDMI cable you can generally go up to 15 ft. You may be able to go up to 45 ft with good quality cable, but you might not be able to get 1080P at that distance.
