                  Answer This Question

A:  Hello CL, Thank you for asking. We are happy to help. No, we do not use Neonicotinoids. We mainly use biocontrols to combat pests on our plants. We do use pesticides occasionally to ensure you receive a healthy plant with no harmful bugs. The pesticides we do use are Neonicotinoid free and will not cause harm to any pollinators or humans that touch it. We time the usage of pesticides to ensure that it is not in your plant’s system when it is shipped. We only use pesticides that have less than a 24-hour active period. All chemicals dissipate long before it is put in a box and shipped to you. I hope this helps! A:  Neonicotinoid is a water soluble insecticide chemically related to nicotine. According to the Proven Winners website, nor they or their growers use neonicotinoid. They do not claim that their plants are label organic. Check their website under: Protecting Our Pollinators Through Responsible Growing Practices” https://www.provenwinners.com/protecting-our-pollinators Their recommendation to combat budworms on their Supertunias is to spray Bacillus Thuringiensis (BT), this is a bacteria that occurs naturally in soil, it makes proteins that are toxic to inmature larvae, but it’s safe for all pollinators including bees. Proven Winners say that if the customer feels he should use another type of insecticide, organic or otherwise, to please spray early in the morning before the bees are active or late in the evening, when the bees have gone to rest. https://www.provenwinners.com/Bees

A:  You can do a quick search on the internet by typing your zip code and “planting or gardening zone”. South Carolina includes zone 5b through 8b

                    by|Apr 23, 2021

A:  Hi Coxie, Thanks for asking! South Carolina growing zones fall between 7a and 9a, depending on location. You can google “USDA Hardiness Zone Map” and input your zip code to find your exact zone. If you have any further questions, please always feel free to reach us at helpdesk@provenwinnersdirect.com or (734) 654-7485. Happy Planting! :) Nikki

A:  I went out to the garden with a measuring tape: 2 1/4 inches across. I don’t know if they are equal to the Giant Pinks in size.

A:  You can give them a light pruning to encourage branching. Feed them with an soluble all purpose fertilizer or Proven Winners brand soluble fertilizer, once a week or even every third week. If you are in the United States, you can give them a “haircut” in the beginning of July, by that time the plant might have long branches and using a lot of energy to keep the flowers going. Just cut about 20%, no more than that. Make sure you continue to feed the plants so they get another round of beautiful flowers.

A:  Hello Mitchell, Thank you for asking! Yes, in July, we recommend first applying a time-release fertilizer, as well as trimming back some of the longer branches, but no more than 20% of the plant. It is not necessary to cut your Supertunia's before July. You can also give it just a general light trim. Your plant will be out of flower for a few days but will come back stronger than ever. By this time in the year, we also recommend fertilizing every other watering. I hope this helps! A:  I cut them back some in the summer after they have spread alot and it seems to bring on a second burst of flowers. Seems to help considerably! They like a slow release fertilizer as well.

A:  Hey MSCNWI, Supertunias are annuals in all Zones except 10-11 and will make excellent additions for any garden this season. In order to see your zone, I would check out the USDA Plant Hardiness Zone Map online to find out what zone you are in. I hope this information helps. If you have any more questions, feel free to contact us on our hotline (734) 654-7485. Happy planting, Jade

A:  Yes! They love the summer heat. On what zone you live, you can do a quick check on google, just type “gardening zone” and add your zip code. This what I found doing a quick general search: “Wisconsin has three cold hardiness zones – Zone 3 (Northwestern WI), Zone 4 (North, Central, Western WI) and Zone 5 (Southern and eastern WI up past Green Bay and Apostle Islands).”
