A:  Hello Michael, The BrassGUARD Collection 1-Light Outdoor Wall Lantern Sconce is not expected to experience any issue with corrosion. However, the nickel plated finish on this model has not been tested in a setting in which salt can remain on the product. We do offer a line of Durasheild products that are designed for coastal environments but they are generally offered in an Antique Bronze or Black finish. Some examples of these products would under the following model numbers: P560088-020, P560176-031, P560185-031, P560173-031, P560168-031, P560163-031. Thank You

Due to the variations of the environment / climate, we cannot guarantee it will not be effected in this application. We do recommend only cleaning with a warm damp cloth and no harsh chemicals. A:  I can't give you an absolute answer but I can give you some possibilities so you may be able to determine it for yourself, first off the brushed nickel finish on the lantern is finished with a clear coat finish to protect the brushed nickel look, any time the clear coat is damaged or removed from any part moisture will start to corrode or rust the lantern. So has anyone tried to polish the lamp with some type of abrasive polish or cleaner? Has anyone been power-washing the house around the lamp? How long has the lamp been in use because with age the clear finish will in most cases will be affected by ultra violet , wind, tree sap and any number of natural elements , the same as the finish on a car. These are a few of the things off the top of my head that I could think of I hope I was able to answer your question to your satisfaction.
