Q:We just purchased the Altura 68-inch fan from Home Depot and want to be sure this light fixture is compatible with it. Can you confirm?

    Answer This Question

A:  Thank you for your recent inquiry with The Home Depot. This is a universal light kit that was made for Progress Lighting Brand fans that accept the universal light kits. You will need to check with your fan manufacture and see if it accepts a 1/8 IP light kit. If it does, this light kit should work, but please note, this light was designed to go with the Progress Lighting Fans and has not been tested with other brands of fans. Thanks!

Q:how do I know if this is compatible with the ceiling fan in my home? The current fan has a light attached but I don't know if it comes off and what wattage is ok?

                    Answer This Question

A:  If your current light kit attaches with a center threaded pipe (that has an overall diameter of 3/8"), then this, or almost any, light kit can be swapped out. If your current light attaches some other way, then it is unlikely you can replace it. You don't generally need to be concerned about wattage, unless you're having some issues (lights unexpectedly dim). You can test the load on your breaker to see how many amps are currently on the circuit or consult an electrician to perform this test for you.
