Questions and Answers for ProTec Humidifier Cleaning Ball (2-Pack)

A:  All I am finding online is active ingredient Silver (metallic) 1.4%, inert ingredients 98.6%. It says it contains no harmful chemicals, safe non toxic and odor free.

A:  Read the label. Its Active Ingredient is ?Silver ( metallic) - 1.4 percent.

A:  I put one in the one gallon tank. I replace it every 2 months.

A:  My humidifier has a 1 gallon tank. I use 1 ProTec ball. It lasts me at least 2 months. I get no mold or slime. I do have municipal water which I suppose has some chlorine in it. My humidifier is HCM350 which has a UV light that kills microbes. This might help keep it clean. At the ends of the dry season, my humidifiers sometimes are off for 3 or more days. I'm guessing this is what caused a moldy wick once. Now, if the humidifier is off more than a day, I remove the water tank and turn on the fan for a few hours to dry everything out.

A:  Yes, the product is smaller than the little fish they make.

A:  The ball diameter is 1 inch. The handle length is 1-3/8 inches.

A:  It just gets dropped in where you pour the water in. I would assume that you're going to be breathing in a small amount that may be released in the water.

A:  The SDS information is a bit contradictory. No known hazards but is a toxic waste for disposal. It is toxic to aquatic animals/fish. We have used these for years with no ill effects.

A:  Haha... That's actually an interesting question! I've been using this in my humidifier for about a month or so. It says it does not contain harmful chemicals, but I also see where it says not to breath in the vapors. Maybe they mean not to put your nose or mouth directly where the vapor comes out, and inhale directly into your lungs?

A:  I wouldn't recommend that only because it's a cleaning material. It's supposed to keep a filter clean, so if you aren't supposed to ingest it, I'd keep it away from drinking pumps.
