A: These claim to be rated to ANSI/PALD standards, which means each stand must individually be tested to the 6 ton number that is marketed. However, the industry standards now say that the weight ratings must be marketed as a pair. So....both are correct?
For reference, the heaviest consumer-level vehicles are generally around 4 tons empty, and no more than 7 tons GVWR. (ex: Ford F350, Chevy 3500) So, two 6 ton jack stands can easily hold up half of such a vehicle safely, not that you should generally be jacking up a truck with a full cargo in the bed.

A: It's 6 tons for the pair (3 tons each). The Home Depot description saying 12k lbs is dangerously incorrect. Here's the ProLift user manual for these:
