Q:How is the locking unit held on to the outside face of the slider?

A:  Its been installed about 2 weeks and took about 1 hr

A:  This product is installed with screws from the inside.

    A:  Thank you for your recent inquiry regarding this item from Prime-Line Products. If the door is 1-3/4 inches thick and has a mortise lock in the edge of the door, the distance from either side of the door to the center of the keyway on the mortise lock will be 7/8 inches. If the door is not a mortise latch style, then it will probably not reach across into a surface with hook latch from the outside to the inside.
