A: Short answer: NO
Your cactus should be fine, anytime you use Preen around it :). Long answer follows:
Preen is a highly focused product targeting and preventing the germination of seeds. Once it is gone from the soil [after about 3 months], you can seed that area. Better still, as it is not a broad spectrum as well as short lived agent, it has little untoward environmental effect. I wouldn't use it if it did. Just remember: areas that reseed [such as wild flowers] can be treated, but will not reseed themselves unless you use Preen after the new plants have begun to grow, then avoid using it in that area after that so that their seeds laid down at the end of the season will germinate the next. Preen is the only way to economically prevent weeds on pathways, rock gardens, or under giant maple trees where the seedling germinate like a carpet by the thousands, if conditions are favorable. Such over exuberance can be reduced by 99.5% with a properly-timed application of preen. While it comes with a hand spreader-scoop, you can spread Preen more evenly for best coverage and least over-sewing/wastage, using a hand cranked or battery powered rotary spreader ~ $15-20 at Home Depot and other Garden Stores. Disclaimer: I am a avid though not master gardener by hobby and not reimbursed in any way for the above statements. Happy growing!

A: Yes, it will help since it contains trifulalin, but keep in mind it only helps prevent seed germination it doesn't kill what has already sprouted. The following chemicals will provide some control if applied in late winter to mid-spring. Oryzalin, benefin, trifulalin. I also recommend researching puncture weeds to be able to best control these problem weeds.

A: Yes it should work okay those are pretty strong weeds.

A: With the application you suggest Preen Garden Weed Preventer will help to prevent its listed weed seeds from germinating for up to 12 weeks. We do not recommend taking it all out at that time to reapply this product. Instead you could consider applying on top of the rocks/pebbles if the weed barrier is porous; be sure to water good after application and note that this product can stain rocks/pebbles. Thank-you!

A: Probably not. I apply it once a year and mine is only over mulch and it does the trick pretty much for the whole season. There is sporadic breakthrough of weeds, but nothing like it was before I started using it.

A: I'm impressed. Your effort should be sufficient. Its the weed barrier that will really do the job. after that if yo get some grass or weed spraying with roundabout should do the trick.

Answer This Question
A: Absolutely, I apply it every spring and never water it.

A: Applying Preen Garden Weed Preventer as you proposed, the product would not be effective as watering is what activates this product, plus sunlight breaks it down, too. If unable to water immediately after application the product must be worked lightly into the top surface of the soil, which in a rock yard that would not be possible. Thank-you for your inquiry!
