A:  It is locked with a clamp. You rotate the motor unit to raise/lower the bit, and lock it. The clamp tightness is adjustable with a nut and bolt, and given that this is metal against metal, not plastic, it holds firm, with vibrations not being a problem at all. Likewise for the chuck, which is tightened with two wrenches (supplied), not just one. This is slightly more plunder, but gives a very good tight lock, where the bit just won't move at all. If anything, this is probably one of the best routers for ensuring the bit and base heights stay put.

A:  The 9690LR uses a clamp to lock it into place.

A:  You need three 10-24 screws. How long depends on the table's plate thickness, but the screws it comes with (3/8") will be far too short for any table. The holes go through, so using too long screws should not be a problem.
