A: My original lights were held in the can by metal tabs the same way this light is. I had to pull out the old one and then just push this one in. I did notice that the trim ring was not big enough on the new one to cover the existing hole in the ceiling so I had to take it back out and then use the original trim ring along with this light. It was no problem at all and it looks fine. I do wish the trim rings on the new light were about half an inch wider though.
A: No, it's pointed ends dig into the ceiling around the inside of the can and cannot be removed without damage
A: Easily removed and back the way it was. Be careful, if your old light rings are painted over they will stick to the ceiling and take some paint with them when removed.

A: Designed as a retrofit into existing can housing (HD days they will fit most housings of same size), the adapter screws in to the bulb base of the existing housing. We will add new housings and simply plug these in. With the low-temp LEDs, they can be placed in IC housings (in contact with insulation, so no need to clear back adjacent insulation), but, as with any can lights, the housings need to be supported, usually by attaching to ceiling rafters.

A: This is retro fitted to fit into a 6" recessed can.
A: You do need the in ceiling can. This is a retrofit for an existing fixture. You remove a shield in the canister and screw in the adapter and put it back together.
A: Being 'difficult' to install would be relative to how your skill level and familiarity with lighting would be. With that said, you will need to place this in a recessed housing, if you don't have one already. The installation would be simple, if you already have one installed in the ceiling. If not, you'd need to have one provided, so that this would fit in it. Joseph
A: I would say no with the caveat if the fixture you are replacing is in an awkward place to get at. It can be difficult to work on a fixture in the ceiling from a ladder. Also if you have big hands it can be awkward to work in a tight place.
A: I had to change the depth of the light socket which not hard after I figured out how to do that. Just loosen a wing nut and slide the socket deeper into the can.
A: No you just screw in the replacement socket and then attach the fixture, but remember once installed it cannot be easily adjusted or removed

A: NOt sure, we use them in our dining room which is never really cold
A: I have them in my garage in a pantry I built and they work well. The garage is insulated but can get in the 30's at times and they have not failed. I also have them on our open porch and they work fine there. I live in western Oregon so weather is not real cold but does get in the teens and twenties at times and the LED's work fine in this application.
A: At 32 degrees they start instantly unlike fluorecent bulbs needing to warm up.
A: From my experience you must buy and try. My ceiling cans are lightly smaller causing extra work you normally would not have to do.
A: Without seeing nor knowing what your 'old style' can lights are, the only surefire way to determine if these retrofit LED lights will work is to install at least one first. Luckily, most housings old and new are fairly straight forward and universal. Try it out, and it should work for you without issues. Joseph

A: This sounds like the same project I completed. I have six in a pool room. I had it done in 20 minutes. Remove the bulb, existing trim and reflector. Screw in the new lite socket and push the new lite into position. There are two spring steel sheet metal pieces that retain it in place. You may have to flex the spring steel one way or another to get it in easily.
A: Should work fine as you do not need to do anything to the can fixtures. You remove the heat shield, screw the adapter in and push the light into the canister.

A: That will depend on the size of the existing housing. Check product label to see if SIZE matches. I believe these are for 6-inch housings.

A: I am not a lighting pro. The existing fixture I have worked for me. It is a 6 inch HALO Light. I do not know what other lites are on the market. I imagine they are pretty much the same. My only concern was the inside height and it was fine.

A: As easy as changing a light bulb, removing the old outer ring and pushing this into place.
A: Once you take the old trims out of the recessed housing, you can then install these retrofit LED trims. There are tension springs located on the retrofit LED trims (not seen in the photo), which will fit into your housing. Joseph
A: metal tabs in the sides create a tight friction fit with the housing. however, the light is very difficult to snug up to the ceiling and may leave a small gap because the metal can housing is fairly loose.
A: good question, they are held in place by two spring steel plates pointed at each end to engage into the ceiling opening of the prior can. Be careful see my general comments about removing or adjusting them once installed
