A:  The bar itself is 18" (i.e., the area between the mounts where the towel can be hung). The overall outside length of the complete assembly when mounted is just short of 22 inches. FYI it is a solid bar, I like it, but seems no way it'll work in your situation. Good luck.

NOTE: The overall length of 20.88 inches stated in the question is incorrect. Consider using the towel rings that are available in the same style and color. We have two of these as well as the bar and they work quite well.
