A:  Yes, rough-in valve #0X8-340A is compatible with the Penn tub and shower trim. However, Penn model #8P8-PESB already includes rough-in valve #0X8-310A (no stops) in the box with the trim.

A:  The 0X8-340A is required for a Pfister tub/shower or shower-only trim installation. If you add the Rhen handheld shower off to the side, you will also need a diverter valve and handle trim along with your handheld. The compatible diverter valves are # 015-3WDNS Pfister Non-Shared 3-Way Diverter Valve or # 015-6WDS Shared 6-Way Diverter Valve. The Rhen #016-RH1* diverter handle trims are a separate purchase specific to this diverter valve. The finish options for the diverter trim are #016-RH1K Brushed Nickel, #016-RH1C Polished Chrome, #016-RH1B Matte Black, or #016-RH1BG Brushed Gold. You may also have to contact Home Depot directly for product availability and ordering if unavailable online.

The only difference between the rough-in valves is model #0X8-340A has integral stops to shut the water off at the valve for maintenance, and #0X8-310A does not. You would need to shut the main water supply off to the house for maintenance, such as replacing the cartridge.
