Q:Can this be planted in a large pot and if so will it survive the winter in Denver in a pot?

A:  The plant covers are great for wintering plants in the ground!! I use them on my hybiscus in the winter...N. CA

    by|Apr 27, 2019

A:  I have mine in a pot, usually they do quite well. Now for the winter, If would if possible move indoors, if this can not be done, then make sure the container will be able to withstand the cold (thin plastic could crack) and I would feed the plant and cover with some mulch around the base, also if possible move to an area where it will not be blasted by the arctic wind.

A:  Hi Curious, The Lo and Behold Blue Chip Jr. can be planted in a container. It is also suitable for hardiness zones 5-9. It looks like Denver is a hardiness zone of 5b, so this plant would be suitable for your hardiness zone, but I would definitely take extra care of it to prevent it from dying as I am sure it can get pretty cold in Denver in the winter. Pots can shatter in the winter if it gets too cold and they don't provide a lot of insulation for plants like the ground does. My best advice would be to keep the pots somewhere warmer in the winter. I hope this helps! If you have any additional questions, feel free to call our hotline at (734) 654-7485. Thanks, Hailee

A:  Does great in a larger pot, and tends to grow pretty rapidly. As for overwintering, different folks seem to have different luck with it.

        by|May 3, 2023

A:  It is rated for the zone you live in. I would still put some mulch around the base of it and give it a dose of fertilizer before the winter sets in.

A:  Have two conflicting answers. One: Early, Middle & Late Summer. Two: Mid summer to frost. So doesn't sound like it blooms in the spring.

A:  Hi Karen, This plant blooms late spring / early summer through fall. It is not known as a spring bloomer, but does have re-blooming and long lasting blooms once they pop. It will perform best with a lot of sunlight and fertilizer. Thank you, SFR

A:  I live in NY and these plants have survived our winters, so I would say yes. I would be more worried about the hot summers in Dallas.

Q:I have a hill that doesn't want anything to live on it. I was thinking of digging up some of the dirt and putting new soil down. I have seen these plants before and really like the looks of them. The hill faces mainly to the southwest and gets afternoon sun . Do you recommend these plants for covering a hill? Thanks!

A:  You would have to try it out and see. I would plant one and see how it does. If it likes the location then go ahead and cover your hill with them.

A:  I think it would be great for a hill, when they bloom they bring so much color to where ever they are. Just make sure the have some really good soil...

A:  I have had one planted on a hill which is fairly steep for 2 years. It's doing great!

                          by|Feb 22, 2022

A:  I don't see why they wouldn't live there as long as the hill has good soil. It's a pretty low maintenance plant.
