A:  Hello Joe, The cost of the chair reflects the material it is made from. The frame of the chair is aluminum. However, the slats in the seat and back and the pads on the arms are made with POLYWOOD HDPE recycled plastic materials. We are able to take milk jugs and laundry detergent bottles and turn them into small pellets that we use to extrude the lumber for the manufacturing process of the furniture. We do all of this at our facility in Syracuse, IN. The POLYWOOD material is very durable and made to last for many years. Thank you for the great question! Ashley
