Answer This Question
A: Yes. Place the insulation on a piece of scrap plywood or board to protect your floor Using a straightedge, compress the insulation and cut with a utility knife. Depending on depth of insulation it may take a few passes with knife to complete cut. Place the insulation in the space and staple. Wear gloves, some people can be sensitive to the fiberglass. Additionally you should wear a mask and eye protection.

Answer This Question
A: Hi Matt, if the lights are rated for insulation contact (IC) the batts may be in contact with them. Typical temperatures of radiant heat systems are well within range for insulation contact and will have no affect on fiberglass insulation batts. Thank you for your inquiry!

Q:What is the best R rating to use in 2 x 6 rafters in a garage situation?

A: I would recommend at least an R 30 insulation for that situation

A: I used R21 in the 2x6 rafters. It's thinner than R19 and it has a higher insulating value.
by|Oct 23, 2019
A: Depends, do you intend to heat it, is it attached, these are all relevant to your needs. If attached and heated, go for the max, or R-19.
by|May 4, 2023
A: You don't need any higher r-value in the ceiling of your garage than you have in the garage door. Any more would be wasted. Unless there was a living space above the garage.

A: R19 is made to fit within a 2x6 cavity. If you have soffit and ridge ventilation, I would recommend you use Raft-R-Mate baffels in order to maintain the air flow behind the batt insulation. Using R19 in a 2x6 cavity with baffels, would give you an approximate R-value of R18 with compression. I recommend checking with local code in order to determine the recommended R-value and vapor barrier requirements for your area prior to purchasing any insulation. Code will dictate these requirements. Thank you for your inquiry, and Happy Holidays!
