Q:I have an old detached garage. The siding is just nailed to the studs. They're in great condition but I can see daylight in a few places. Can I use this material w/ facing towards the inside against the drywall--without additional vapor barrier?

Answer This Question

A:  Hello Jens, Siding alone, especially if it is vinyl, is not a weather resistant barrier. Meaning air and water can pass through it. We do not recommend adding insulation to wall cavities that are not protected from exterior conditions with a weather resistive barrier. Added insulation may be damaged and also may hold water longer, slowing the drying process which could cause issues with the framing and/or the siding. Thank you for your inquiry!

Q:I'm insulating a shed for an office. The studs are 12 on center instead of 16 . Is it better to buy the 24 width and cut it in half or should I buy the 15 and cut it back or is there a better option? The ceiling is 24 but the rest 12

A:  Hello JoJo, Owens Corning does not manufacture a batt product that is 12" wide. Cutting a 24" batt in half will produce less waste, but either option is acceptable. Thank you for your inquiry!
