Q:My irrigation system is all Hunter- 4"popups. Can I use orbit 6" in place of the Hunters?

Answer This Question

A:  That is a good question. It will depend on how many heads there are, as well as other factors (including whether you intend to use the Hunter nozzles on the Orbit sprinkler, or if it's a full Hunter-to-Orbit replacement), so this is hard to answer without more information. A:  You can use them. The height of the pop up is relevant to height of your grass or obstacles like plants. As long as your pipe is the same size (1/2,3/4,1”) it’s plug and play. Otherwise you will need an adapter.

A:  eric2223, this sprinkler attaches to 1/2" pipe threads, and has an adjustable nozzle.

A:  These will fit on the standard 1/2" fittings sold by most manufacturers of sprinkler pipe fittings. By "adjustable plastic head" are you referring to the entire head, or just the nozzle. These are plastic heads with brass nozzles. There is no real price advantage to plastic nozzles and the brass nozzles supplied here are durable and adjustable.

A:  by turning the top portion of the pop up....counter clockwise for more coverage, clockwise for less.

A:  Doug, if you look underneath the head of the nozzle, you should see beige-colored tabs. Adjust those tabs to change the pattern (in terms of degrees, not distance) of the spray. To adjust the spray distance, look down at the top of the head. Turn the center screw clockwise to tighten/lessen the spray distance, while counterclockwise rotation of the screw will result in greater distance of spray. Q:do you install the water hose on the side and it has a slow drain on the bottom?

A:  steve, if you want to use the side inlet - which, to be clear, is not for use with a garden hose - you have two options. You can either plug the bottom inlet (the plug that comes installed in the side inlet would suffice) or you can install an auto-drain, which would be a separately purchased product. Should you have any questions at all, please feel free to reach out to our Support team at 1-800-488-6156. We'd be happy to help in any way we can. Thanks!

A:  No drain on the bottom. There is a plug that can be threaded into the side if you want to plumb from the bottom, or into the bottom so you can run a flexible inlet pipe into the side. I sense that you are concerned that the bottom of the sprinkler head may tend to hold water after the rest of the system is drained. I understand the concern but have not had a problem with these in a part of Colorado that saw -15F sustained for a week last winter, despite the fact that I was lazy last fall and didn't blow out.

A:  no, you have the option of connecting the water line on the bottom or side, whichever works best for installing.
