Dormant trees are asleep and will wake up in their new environment without knowing that they were moved. Even evergreen trees have much less stress in the slow growing winter months. Fruit trees will have the benefit of a full growing season when planted while they are dormant. The best tree to plant is the tree that bears your favorite fruit, whatever that may be. A:  Thank you for your questions. While the Burbank Plum will bear white flowers every spring, the subsequent fruit crop will be very small without one of the pollinizers nearby. The tree has not been genetically altered but rather grafted onto rootstock that will control its mature size. The picture is representative of the crimson-red skin and yellow flesh of the Burbank plum.
