A:  A small gap between the tapered sleeve clips is normal - this is so that they are easily removable should you decide to disassemble the product in the future. ​ Please do make sure that the grooved lines on the back of each tapered sleeve clip are aligned with the grooved lines on the poles - you should slightly feel the tapered sleeve "click" in place when they are aligned. ​ Lastly, the shelves are supposed to go one way only - the wider opening on the corner slots of each shelf should go in first. We would also recommend having one person using their thumb to hold down on the tapered sleeve where the gap is while the other person gently guides the shelf down for smoother assembly.

A:  The directions were excellent, all of the pieces fit together and looks just like the picture. This item is sturdy and has plenty of room for hanging clothes, I stack shoe boxes on the bottom and hang purses on the hooks provided on the side which your asking about. Awesome product!
