Q:Would this be good to seal wood siding cracks
by|Jan 29, 2024
1 Answer
Answer This Question

A:  Thank you for the question. It may be possible to use OSI QUAD Sealant but the results will depend upon the nature of the cracks. If these cracks are running with the grain of wood, this is a natural occurrence and your intended use may only work temporarily. If the gaps are man-made joints, as in fillet joints or flush joints, then the success will depend upon the size and condition of joint you need to seal.

Q:What do I need to replace weather stripping on my Anderson storm door?
    by|Jan 18, 2024
    1 Answer
    Answer This Question

A:  Thank you for your question. OSI QUAD Sealant is a solvent-based sealant product designed for exterior weatherproofing applications and would not be recommended to install weatherstripping. The specific types of products needed for your application will depend on the composition of your weatherstripping and we recommend following the weatherstripping manufacturer's instructions for installation. Many adhesive products may experience bonding difficulties to rubber compositions and testing is typically recommended prior to use in your entire application.

Q:I'm restoring a bronze plaque for our cemetery. Will this work to seal the 6 panels before I coat them with a lacquer finish?
          by|Dec 18, 2023

          Answer This Question

A:  Thank you for the question. OSI QUAD is a solvent-based sealant and may or may not be recommended for your project. This sealant takes 7-14 days to fully cure before painting and we recommend using a latex paint or primer. Testing for compatibility and adhesion before starting the project is recommended to determine if the results will be suitable and acceptable to you. For this application, results cannot be guaranteed.

              Q:Is this product mold resistant
              by|Dec 6, 2023
              1 Answer
              Answer This Question

A:  Thank you for the question. OSI QUAD Sealant is an exterior solvent based product that is inert when cured. It is not possible for this product to support mold growth itself; however, that does not mean mold growth cannot occur on the surface of the sealant should it become contaminated with airborne organic particulate. Mold growth requires the following conditions: temperature range above 40°F and below 100°F, mold spores which are commonly found in the environment, a nutrient base (a food source which is organic such as atmospheric dust particles, vegetation or tree pollens, etc.), and moisture.

Q:I am applying for Cedar Siding - They recommend a non-hardening polyurethane, polysulphide, or latex -silicone. Does this qualify?

                Answer This Question

A:  Thank you for the question. OSI QUAD Sealant is a solvent-based product which remains flexible once cured to allow for movement with typical expansion and contraction of building materials; however, OSI QUAD MAX is more flexible once cured, although either may be used on cedar surfaces.
