A:  Big enough to fit a lag screw through.

A:  The holes on the bottom of this anvil, or at least the one I bought a couple of years ago, appear to be about 6.5 mm or about 1/4 inch. I have a digital caliper. But it is not available at this time. I used a small metal ruler with standard inches and fractions of an inch measured on one side and with the metric measurements on the other side. But I think it is pretty close to those measurements I just gave you. Now depending upon what you want to use this anvil for, you might find it more convenient to keep it mobile and not screwed down in one spot. I use it for leathercraft when I am setting rivets or snaps in the leather. So I need to move it around or move it out of the way where I do my leathercraft activities. So consider how much you might want this anvil kept in one spot. Or if you want to just screw it down or fasten it somehow to a 3/4 inch piece of plywood, maybe, for more stability, then you could just move that board around with the anvil attached. And you could possibly clamp the board down to a work surface while you are using it. However, that anvil is pretty stable, because it is so heavy and the base it wide enough. So it is your choice. Have a good time with it.

A:  My favorite muscle car is a 68' - 69' AMX. Equipped w/ 309 ci. engine. Block itself was cast iron. However, the AMX cast iron engine block was particularly considered the strongest, more durable made at the time due to its high percentage of Nickel content. Cast iron is cheaper than steel & more brittle. Cast iron may also contain voids in the metal. Steel has a greater Tensile strength. Vintage, cast iron Clawfoot bathtubs are superior for what they are -- but I would never choose or desire an inferior Samurai sword made out of cast iron.. ..just some thoughts to chew on !

A:  This item can be ordered (and paid for) and sent to a Home Depot store for pick-up. I am from Canada so I paid for this item and had it shipped to an Home Depot store near a friend in North Charleston, SC. He picked it up at the store and brought it with him when visiting this summer.

A:  Sure, in a pinch. It's cast iron, not tool steel, and will eventually dent with hammer blows.
