Q:Does this have to be anchored down? Could it stand on concert slab without being anchored?

Answer This Question
A: It could. You would still have to anchor it to the ground with the tie downs included. If you don't anchor it someway it will blow over in a heavy wind.

A: No it will not stand alone on concrete slab, it has to be anchored down.

Q:Dick from New Mexico said he anchored the greenhouse to cement slab. I was wondering how that was accomplished. I want to give this to my daughter but worried how she will be able to anchor it to a cement slab by herself.

A: I left my wood frame around the concrete. I then drilled 4 holes. One on each corner. I then took 4 wood screws and put a washer on all 4 and screwed them in. I made sure they were by the fabric liner as this is the strongest part of the greenhouse. It worked amazing. We have had 60 to 70 mile winds and it don't budge.

A: I have had mine 3 winters and never lost a plant. Annual or perennial. The secret to that is a portable thermostat heater. We have temperatures down to 10 degrees. The unit holds heat real well and the heater doesn't run all the time.

A: Cut a piece of plywood (half inch to inch thick) to the exact dimensions of the bottom;
place 4X4 posts along each edge of the plywood... cut to the plywood dimension...
attach the posts to the plywood from under the posts through the plywood.
* * *
Place it where desired; posts facing up to create a large wooden bin;
fill it with stone/sand ... drill randomly spaced drainage holes prior to the
addition of the stone/sand, if desired.
Attach the bottom of the greenhouse directly to the top side of the posts
securely... secure the whole structure with metal strapping over the top of the frame
before draping the covering over the entire structure...
* * *
That should hold it securely for a season or two...
depending on whether you decide on treated wood, aluminum or copper hardware,
and drainage holes...
* * *
In reality, the plywood does not have to encase the entire bottom of the structure...
it only needs to be a large enough area to create the weight needed to keep the
greenhouse steady in the winds expected...
Building the post frame and placing on top of a canvas on the concrete pad
would also have the same effect without the plywood bottom...
No attachment required.
It would also make it easy to move the canvas and the stone/sand in the spring...
IF desired. Remove the structure; pull the canvas to the dumping site
(with personal lawn tractor ... or with the help of the neighborhood kids...(wink)) ;
and lift one edge of the canvas to its opposite edge to dump the stone/sand out.
* * *
Good luck with it...
Until that time . . .

A: You could try rocks or sandbags to keep it from blowing away. Maybe try something that will keep it in the ground. Maybe tape. I use tarp for the base of mine.

A: Howdy JustMe,
You could drill holes into the cement using masonry bits. Then use plumbing or electrical clamps to hold the greenhouse down.
Happy clamping,

A: It did protect my plants in a recent freeze. I don't know if it's because of the higher windows that really don't stay closed of if the plastic is not thick enough.

A: Protected mine all winter. I put a portable heater with a thermostat and set it to 68 degrees. It didn't seem to run that often but was a great prevention for freezing. You will be amazed to see annuals still bloom all winter. Our temperatures got down to zero.

A: Metal with plastic connectors. Very sturdy. I put mine on a concrete slab and anchored it to the slab. It,s been up for about a year and has withstood 60 mile an hour winds. Saved all my annuals last winter and started some seed plants which were ready for planting in the spring. Definatelt a money saver.
