Q:When using the New England Arbors bracket system, do you measure the distance between posts and the diagonal from the bottom of the flange on the bracket or the bracket body.

Q:Two questions:
(1) I live in an area that gets some pretty strong winds periodically (30-60 mph). Will this pergola stand up to that kind of wind without falling over?
(2) How are all the parts secured to each other? Do they screw together?

Answer This Question
A: Great questions. The best way to secure your pergola is to cement the posts into the ground (when your pergola arrives, you need to purchase 4X4 posts to put inside the vinyl posts). When you do this, your pergola will be nice and sturdy.
All parts are secured to each other via screws that are included in the kit.
This pergola is covered by our 20 year manufacturer's warranty and you will never have to paint or stain it.

Q:Would it be safe to install this over a natural gas/propane fire pit? Is the ceiling of the arbor tall enough to allow heat to dissipate without damaging the vinyl long term?

A: Thank you New England Arbors for your prompt response. In doing more research, I'm going with a 50,000 BTU fire pit or lower and am also going to purchase the extension kit that will raise the height of the pergola as well. This will be in a well ventilated area so I think I should be ok. Thanks again for your input!

A: That depends on many things: How hot is the flame? How high does the flame get? How open is the fire pit area (for heat to disperse).
Typically we advise against this but we also have many clients who move forward and love the outcome.

They are designed to simply be slipped over treated 4x4x8 wood posts that are either embedded in concrete or directly mounted to a concrete or wood surface using the bolt down brackets.
