Q:Will this work in Southern California if we have humid days

              Answer This Question

A:  Baddog, The unit is designed to work better in areas where humidity is lacking. Typically we say for areas with less than 20% humidity it will work better. If the humidity reaches more towards the 50% range, the cooler will not be as effective and can create somewhat of a tropical effect rather than a cooling effect. - Christina Essick Air Products

A:  I have one installed in Palmdale California. It works amazing except for maybe a few of the hottest humid days off the year. Even when it is 110 degrees outside I feel ok in my house.

Q:How much better are 12" media over 8" ? Price difference seems to be pretty significant

                  Answer This Question

A:  Kajtek1, It just depends on what type of air flow or cooling you need for your home. The difference between the 8" media and the 12" media is the cooling and air flow affect it will have. When you have the 8" media it will provide you a good amount of cooling with more air flow. The 12" media will give you a better cooling affect with less air flow because it has 4 more inches of media to travel through. - Christina Essick Air Products

A:  Hi Christina and thanks for the answer. Did someone ever made test what is the bast use of evaporative coolers? There must be the best flow rate for max cooling effect, but even I researched the subject pretty well, no such answer exist. Somebody suggested "toilet paper test on window screen" as method of determination how much air flow/pressure you suppose to have. Pardon me, but I am not spending thousands of dollars on cooler that needs toilet paper.

A:  No. Water remains in the water pan/tray. The system will purge periodically so make sure you do hook up a drain hose or piping. Mine drains via a hose and auto waters my garden.

A:  Jo, No these units will not drain when you turn them off. If you would like for it to dump the old water from the unit, it would be best if you purchased the Clean Machine purge pump. - Christina Essick Air Products

A:  Media refers to the size of the PADS 8 or 12", not the discharge opening. Ensure your current cooler roof duct and discharge size of this unit are the same or you can buy a universal roof mount duct but, sorta pricey. 12" pads will cool a little more than 8" pads.
