A:  Brain miscue on prior answer re chuck key. Go to Makita web site, of course, not Ryobi.

      by|Aug 13, 2019

A:  No idea what "size" or what pitch the chuck is. Rasiest thing to do is take it to your nearest Home Depot, check in at the Customer Service desk so they know you are bringing the drill motor in with you and don't think you are shop lifting, and then go to th small power tools row and talk with one of HD's tool folks there. HD sells literally dozens of chuck keys, and they will have the Makita OEM key you need. Buy two (2) because you will eventually lose a the key if you only buy one. Also, look on your Makita tool for a model number and serial number. With that information go to the Makita web site on line and locate the owners manual for the tool, download a .PDF copy, and print it out for your three ring binder of manuals for your tools.

A:  I have no isea. Take your drill with you to your nearest Home Depot, check in at the Customer Service Desk, and then walk ver to the tool aisle where the drills are. The HD sells all sorts of chuck krys. Check with a sales person there for assistance finding a key which fits. Buy two (2) of them, because eventually you will loseone. In the interim, go online to the Ryobi web site, and with the model and serial number on your drill, look up the product manual, download the PDF copy of the manual, and print it out.

Q:Do I need to buy makita bits for this drill or can I use my DeWalt bits?

        Answer This Question

A:  Thank you for your question. Makita does not recommend using accessories or attachments other than those specifically made for the tool being used. Please refer to your instruction manual for other compatibility questions.

        by|May 30, 2020

A:  I've only used Black and Decker; Vermont American, and Milwaukee drill bits. Didn't even know there were Makita branded bits. Drill works fine with the B&D; VA and Milwaukee bits. You can use any conventional bit with a straight shank.

          A:  Use the Dewalt bits

          by|Aug 12, 2019

A:  No, any straight shank bit will work. The bits with the smallish hexagonal butt ends which fit into a quick change bit holder are a bit (sorry about the bad pun) more of a problem. Those hex ended bits will work, but getting the tightly clamped into the chuck jaws is a bit less reliable.

A:  If you If yours is significantlyre not happy with it, do something about it. Don't spend your time on here. Take the drill back to the store; ask for the department manager in the tool department; have him / her operate your drill and check the sound. Ask for her / him to get a new one out of th box and try the operation of the new one. If your old one sounds significantly clunkier / knocking sound, request a replacement. You originally posted in February, 2019. You bought the drill before that. Its now May 2019. You are wasting time on the warranty amd the HD return policy.

Q:Can this drill be controlled at low speeds to drive or extract screws. Makita corded drill Model #6407

              Answer This Question

A:  Yes, the slow speed motor control is good. But motor speed control requires practice. And the real key to using the drill as a screw gun for either extraction or insertion of a screw, Phillips head or flat blade, or any of the more exotic hes or square drives is to find a driving bit which properly fits the screw head. Too small a bit head will always cause problems. If you are inserting a screw into wood ALWAYS make a pilot hole and be sure to lube the screw threads with either (expensive) beeswax or (reasonably cost) Ivory white soap.

A:  Not recommended because of no low speed torque.

              A:  yes

              by|May 3, 2023

A:  Makita 6407 3/8” Drill has a powerful 4.9 AMP motor that produces a low decibel rating of (79db) for quieter operation. The 6407 has variable speed (0 -2,500 RPM) for drilling holes and driving screws in a wide variety of materials.

A:  Yes. If you just "pop" (pull the trigger slightly and let go quickly) the trigger slightly it helps to extract the screw more slowly and gives you more control without stripping the head or the screw. If you reverse the drill and back the screw out a few turns and then go to the forward position of the drill the screw will drive deeper into the material that you are drilling into. It is powerful enough to set a screw deep into wood if you are not careful, so just keep practicing and it will come easy for you! Good luck!
