Q:I would like to be able to install a pull down, roll up black shade concealed/within the interior of the shelf. The application is to provide privacy from over a see-thru, alcohol burning fireplace for privacy (from the den side) where a murphy bed is used for overnite guests. Is this possible?

A: Two small pieces of wood and screws are included. You install close to each end of the mantle, then slide the mantle over them.

A: The shelf has a kind of tongue and groove installation. It comes with two wooden blocks that have a groove and the shelf fits into the groove. Almost like a z-bar installation but with two separate pieces.

A: Two small wooden supports are screwed into the wall (preferably into studs) and then the shelf is laid on top of them. Since my shelf is 60" and weighs 11 lbs. I found this inadequate and improvised an additional support. If you are purchasing a shorter shelf and don't plan to display anything heavy on it, the existing support may be adequate. If you plan to purchase a long shelf, be prepared to do a little carpentry to enhance the support

A: You attach little wooden rectangular pieces to the wall, then the wooden shelf slips over them. They are sturdy and can support a good amount of weight.

A: Mounts to the wall with little precut ears and two molly screws; mantle shelf is then placed over the top of the ears with no possibility of falling off the wall. Very simple and thoughtful.
