Q:I own this fountain and really like it. I change the water every day and use a soft brush weekly as recommended. Over the last few months, the inside of the bowl has developed these black spots (see photo). Any ideas?

Answer This Question
A: The outer layer of the birdbath is real crushed stone. As with real stone, there will be algae and other organic material that will form and eventually stain the inner bowl. If this is not acceptable, you may try adding a type of bleach to your soft brushing. Make sure to rinse thoroughly several times to wash out the bleach, as this is toxic to wildlife.

Q:Is the base hollow? I hammer garden stakes into the ground then slide my current birdbath over the stakes. It keeps raccoons from tipping my current birdbath over. The base needs to be hollow to allow the stakes to fit underneath.
