A:  Hello Installer. Thank you so much for your interest in Moen products. The Moen Designer hand grip comes will the hardware to install into a stud. This product needs to be installed into a stud. There is no special hardware for this hand grip so you can install it without a stud. A:  You MUST mount this grab bar to a wall stud! If you don't, a person can pull the anchors/screws through the drywall/plaster & lath and fall. ALL grab bars must mount to wall or door stud framing studs (or in certain applications, direct to brick/concrete wall). Note also that some walls have been built with under-sized studs (2 x3's), which are not as strong as 2 x 4's. Likewise, a true brick house may only have 2 x 2 or smaller lumber for drywall/lath & plaster/electrical rough-in, which also are not strong enough to mount grab bars to.
