A:  You have not indicated what Moen tub spout part number you are dealing with. Your description could be any number of Moen parts. So this must necessarily be a generalized answer, and may not be exactly applicable to the specific you are using. I have installed two different Moen tub spouts which came with Moen single handle shower valves and trim kits. The Moen instruction / installation sheets which come with each one specify on page three of each set of instructions at Arabic numbered step 3 in each set of instructions a pipe length between 2 and 2 1/2 inches from the wall. The instruction sheets are number INS 10600 (11/19) and INS 10177B (8/ 14). I assume that the numbers inside the parentheses are the dates the separate instructions were issued by Moen. Neither of the instruction sheets have on them a Moen shower valve kit part number. Have you tried Moen's on line help? It's been my experience that the Moen telephone help line is useless; always busy and one can never get through to a human being.

A:  I don't think this one is suitable for modification. Suggest that if you want a threaded diverter that you return this one and buy one that is designed for a threaded installation.

A:  All the diverter parts are included to execute the slip-on installation (which isn't much beyond the diverter itself). I needed a hex wrench, some plumbers putty, and some silicone caulk to complete the installation.

A:  The pipe is clean and smooth. The original Monticello (circa 2000) had a different design for the slip on adapter. It appears that with this new design, when you tighten the set screw it pulls the spout away from the trim (escutcheon) plate. It sits perfectly flat against the escutcheon before you tighten it.

A:  I bought this spout today and tried to install it. have the same problem. The condition seems to satisfy everything as Moen expert describes here.. How can I solve this problem?

The Moen Tub Spout 179101 is a slip fit spout designed to fit over a smooth, 1/2” copper pipe measuring a maximum distance of 3-3/4” from the wall. To ensure a proper fit, the copper pipe should be free of sharp edges and burrs. Any obstruction may prevent the spout from seating to the trim plate.
