A:  The Moen website shows the cartridge as a Moen 1258 and physically looks different than the 1248. I would say no.

The Moen 2-Handle Replacement Cartridge for Roman Tub Faucets, part number 1248/1248B, was used in the Moen Banbury two-handle deckmount roman tub faucet, model number 86924. If the product was manufactured prior to December, 2017, the Moen Banbury two-handle deckmount roman tub faucet used the Moen 2-Handle Replacement Cartridge for Roman Tub Faucets, part number 1248/1248B. For those Moen Banbury two-handle deckmount roman tub faucets manufactured after December, 2017, they used our Moen Duralast ceramic disc cartridge, part number 1258. Handles using the 1248/1248B cartridge will rotate 180 degrees; handles using the Moen Duralast ceramic disc cartridge #1258 will only rotate 90 degrees. The Moen 2-Handle Replacement Cartridge for MOEN Roman Tub Faucets is designed as a replacement cartridge for many of the Moen roman tub valves. Depending on the generation of the Moen roman tub valve that is installed will determine if the 1248 cartridge is compatible with your Moen roman tub valve body. The Moen model T990 is only for the trim pieces and does not allow us to determine the model number of the valve body installed. A:  The cartridge is replaceable you will need a special tool to unscrew the cartridge it costs about 15 bucks easy project did mine in 2020 Roman tub about the same age

The Moen 2-Handle Replacement Cartridge for MOEN Roman Tub Faucets, 1248, is designed to replace in the valve from the top side for dripping. There are several styles of replacement cartridge depending on model and year of install. If the entire brass valve needs to be changed the access would be different in every home. A:  You don’t need to get to the bottom of the tub.  You remove the handle and pull out the cartridge from the top. No need to cut through anything. 

A:  The cartridges for the Moen faucets in my tub were replaceable from the top under the knobs.

A:  The cartridges are replaceable from the top.  That is exactly what I did.  The cartridges are removable with a special Moen tool available at HD. If you search Youtube there are several videos on how to do this.  

A:  Correct. Replacing the cartridges would be easier. But you can always replace the faucets with another Moen model in the same line up so it fits. A Moen specific tool will be required to pull out the cartridge.
