Q:Will it detect motion behind a glass shower door?
    by|Mar 27, 2018

    Answer This Question

A:  Maestro occupancy sensors use passive infrared technology which essentially send out infrared beams to detect motion in the space. Typically, glass would break up that beam and thus, it would not be able to detect motion through it. If used in a bathroom application, we would typically suggest extending the timeout to ensure that the lights don't accidentally turn off while you are still in the room.

Q:Is there a version of this that also has a dimmer for each circuit? So the motion sensor could be set to activate only one circuit which could be put to a low setting? (don't want blinded entering the bathroom in the middle of the night)

      Answer This Question

A:  Currently, Lutron does not offer a dual wall box sensor/dimmer for this application. Lutron does offer the MA-L3L3, however it does not have the sensor option. Lutron also offers the MSCL-OP153M however, it could only control one circuit. We have passed your inquiry on to our team as we are always considering options for additional products.

Q:Planning to use for a bath with a fan/light combo and separate LED light. I don't want either to turn on when occupancy is detected, so can they both be set to manual on, and auto off? Thanks.

A:  Yes they can. When you purchase the product, on the left side of each large switch button there will be a smaller button that you can use to program the auto on/off setting for both switches.

A:  I am not sure if you can turn both switches to manual mode. But I chatted with lutron and I was told that this switch MS-ops6-ddv-wh will allow for one switch setting to work as a regular sensor and turn something on and off automatically, while the other switch setting will allow for manually turning the switch on and off or manually on with a timed-out option. I do not know if the wall switch that I am referring to here is the same model number that you are speaking about, because i dont see the model number on my screen. I just found out this information about this switch this morning, from Lutron.

Q:Is there another switch like this that times out after being turned on. ie: it has a timer function without the motion. I have two fans in my bathroom...one for exhaust and the other for heat. In the summer, I do not want the heat to turn on.

A:  Unfortunately Lutorn does not have a motion sensor product with a timer. However, for your application, you can set an individual circuit to vacancy mode meaning that it will not turn on unless the button is manually pressed but will still turn off when motion is no longer detected. A guide for this programming can be found http://www.lutron.com/TechnicalDocumentLibrary/048489.pdf on page 7.

Q:In my kitchen, I have two lights that are controlled independently of each other. I have a double switch that is broken. I want to be able to have a motion sensor switch that controls both of my kitchen lights, but also have two buttons that can control the lights independently so I can turn on and off one of them without having to turn on both of them. Will this product allow me to control both lights?

                  Answer This Question

A:  Absolutely, it sounds that this product would be perfect for your application. You will also be able to program it to turn both on automatically, only one on automatically, or neither on automatically. When the sensor times out from not seeing motion however, both lights will always turn off. If you would like to discuss your particular application in more detail, please feel free to reach out to Lutron 24/7 Support at 800-523-9466.
