Q:My Hunter Presto 3 speed fan came with a Hunter rotary wall control. I want to replace with the rocker style to match the rest of my switches in the house. My fan does not have a pull chain. Will this Lutron fan control work?

Answer This Question

A:  Hello Mikey, thank you for your inquiry. Lutron fan controls are designed to work best with pull-chain, non-smart, directly wired fans that do not have their own proprietary wall control or remote control. Even without pull chains, as long as the fan can directly wire to a standard wall switch, this Lutron Diva fan control may work, but we cannot guarantee performance since it comes with its own wall control. We recommend reaching out to Hunter to see if your particular model fan can be used with 3rd-party in-line speed controls like ours. We hope this helps! If you require further assistance, our 24/7 support team is here to help. We can be reached at 1-844-LUTRON1 or via email at support@lutron.com.

Q:Will this speed control work with ceiling fans with DC motors?

    Answer This Question

A:  It is designed for use in AC circuits. Are you sure that your fan has a DC motor?

    by|Jun 1, 2023

A:  Hello Mark, thank you for your question. Currently, our fan controls only function with fans that use AC motors. Also, our fan speed controls such as the Diva model in question are designed to control a standard 3-speed ceiling fan which only uses pull-chains to adjust its speeds. A fan that has its own remote or wall control typically uses a proprietary control technology and would likely be incompatible with a third-party fan speed control such as ours. Q:Can I use this switch with TWO (2) pull-chain 3-speed ceiling fans that are already wired to the same on/off switch? Each fan product specification lists 0.55 Amps load on High speed, so it should be safely below the 1.5A switch rating.

        Answer This Question

A:  Yes, this switch should work. Depending on how fans are wired, ( series or parallel) one fan may run slightly slower than the other.

A:  Hello Mike, thank you for your question. The Diva Fan Control model DVFSQ-F is only able to control one fan at a time; even if multiple fans are within the 1.5-amp limit of the device, it will not be able to properly control more than one fan simultaneously. See the below installation guide for more information: https://assets.lutron.com/a/documents/0301990.pdf Unfortunately, we do not currently offer a fan speed control capable of controlling more than one fan at a time. We hope to continue innovating in order to provide you with this solution in the future! We hope this helps! If you require further assistance, our 24/7 support team is here to help. Q:Can this be used to control a 4 speed fan motor?

            Answer This Question

A:  Hello! The DVFSQ-F is a 3-speed fan controller for paddle ceiling fans that are pull chain operated. If you connect this device to a 4-speed fan, you will lose the ability to cycle through one of the speeds on your fan. This means that you may not be able to use the slowest or the fastest speed that your fan has to offer. If you still have questions or concerns, please give us a call at 1-844-LUTRON1. We're here 24/7, so you can reach out any time, day or night.

Q:Can I use this to control a bathroom fan?

              Answer This Question

A:  Depending on which bathroom fan you have, It should work. The switch has a high med and low position for fan control- it works by sending different voltages to the fan corresponding to the speed you select. (High- full voltage)- like a dimmer switch basically. If your particular fan isn’t rated to operate within a range of voltages, the worst that would happen is that it will only kick the fan on when you set it on the high setting.

A:  This model is compatible with 3 speed ceiling fans only and we do not recommend using this with a bathroom exhaust fan.

Q:Can I wire this with a 3 way switch (for light) as well as fan speed control (not 3 way) at the same time? If so, how? I assume the ?other? switch would be a standard 3-way, but where do I attach the extra traveler to?

                  Answer This Question

A:  The DVFSQ-F may be installed in a 3-way application, however it will only operate a fan motor load. It does not have the ability to operate a lighting load, as well. Here is a diagram of the 3-way wiring: https://www.lutron.com/TechnicalDocumentLibrary/368-4493_Page_5.pdf. For light and fan control with a similar model, Lutron recommends the DVFSQ-LF. This is a single pole only devices, however. Review the install guide for this device here: https://www.lutron.com/TechnicalDocumentLibrary/0301991.pdf.

A:  This switch should work. Using the pull chain on the fan, set to the highest speed. Then the new wall switch with control speed. L/M/H speeds with H same as how you left it with pull chain.

A:  The DVFSQ-F-WH is designed to control a single ceiling paddle fan with pull chains up to 1.5 Amps. Currently, Lutron only recommends one ceiling paddle fan per switch. Please reach out to our Support Team at support@Lutron.com or by phone at 1 (844) 588-7661 for additional assistance.

                      Answer This Question

A:  The DVFSQ-F is designed to control a single pull-chain style ceiling fan. Lutron does not recommend using this fan control to operate more than one fan at a time. Instead, if possible, with one PD-FSQN installed per fan, a Pico remote can be paired to the PD-FSQN controls and operate the fans simultaneously.
