Q:Can I use it for 10 led mr 16 6.5 watts
by|Jul 5, 2020
1 Answer
Answer This Question
A: The DVSC-10P is rated for 1000W incandescent/halogen lighting. Lutron does not recommend using this dimmer for LEDs. For an application with MR16 LEDs, Lutron suggests confirming if there is a low voltage transformer and then consulting application note #559 here: https://www.lutron.com/TechnicalDocumentLibrary/048559.pdf.

Q:I currently have a 600 watt switch controlling 6 lights in my basement drop ceiling with a total wattage of 780 and the metal housing of the switch becomes quite warm after awhile, but not warm enough to melt the plastic on the switch or switch plate. I take it that this is caused by my being 180 watts above the recommended amount, correct?

Answer This Question
A: You are correct that by overloading the dimmer, you will notice the dimmer become very warm and after running it for a while, it may damage the dimmer. There is a failsafe in the dimmer however and it will shut itself down much before it comes close to temperatures high enough to melt the plastic or damage anything else. The DV-10P-LA will be able to handle up to 1000W without an issue. Keep it mind however that it may also become warm to touch with 780W on it but it will be able to handle the load without a problem.

Q:Are they good for Halogen sconces
by|Oct 8, 2014

Answer This Question
A: Unfortunately this dimmer would only be able to handle up to 1000W. With 4x300W bulbs, you would be pushing 1200W and it would overload this dimmer.
