Answer This Question
A: Yes, heat will be generated when dimming incandescent/halogen bulbs. This heat is partially dissipated by the metal heatsink on the front of the dimmer. For more information, please see the following document: http://www.lutron.com/TechnicalDocumentLibrary/Dimmer_Heat.pdf

A: “Warm” shouldn’t be a problem. That is normal. If it gets so hot that it isn’t comfortable to touch, like I have seen in the past, then you have a problem. Most dimmers will get a little warm to the touch while in use.

A: 1000 watt switch .... More watts , more heat.. I would split the light load to two switches but on paper this would do the job.

Answer This Question
A: Yes, this product is made to handle a maximum wattage of 1000 watts which is exactly what you would be at with these 20 bulbs so it can control them.

A: Nigel, if I am understanding you correctly you have 20 bulbs that each of them are rated at 50 watts. Giving you a total of 1000 W. It is the maximum load rating for the dimmer, however, I think you will see that it will work just fine because built into these ratings is a buffer. Having said that, to play it on the safe side you may want to go with a dimmer switch that is a little bit more heavy duty.

A: Unfortunately the CT-103PR-WH is not rated to dim LED lighting and Lutron would not be able to stand behind the performance. That being said, Lutron does manufacturer a CFL/LED version of this dimmer (Model CTCL-153PDH-WH) that is rated to work with a large amount of LED lighting, however only rated up to 150 Watts. Lutron’s compatible bulb list for this dimmer can be found on the product page for the CTCL-153PH-WH under "Info & Guides".
