Answer This Question

A:  This pump has not been designed or manufactured to work with salt water. Salt water will eventually attach the metal motor shaft and screw greatly reducing its life.

    Answer This Question

A:  No this pump does not come kitted with a hose; just the pump. If you want to see a complete list of what comes with the item I can refer you to the PDF of the instructions found under the header info and guide on the Home Depot product listing page. If you open the document you will find it contains an illustration of all the parts that come with this pump and the associated part numbers.

Q:is this pump made for under water use &/or for on/above ground use ??

            Answer This Question

A:  That is a very good question. My apologies as even the manufactures web site is not as clear as it could be. This is a submersible pump and the majority of times it would be installed in the water. However the screen covering the entrance to the volute is removable. When you take it off there will be a round protrusion roughly 1/2" and it would have an outside diameter of .85". So if you wanted to install this outside of the water you could by putting a hose over this lip and securing it. But keep in mind this pump will not draw a vacuum. Meaning it will not lift water out of a vessal. It would need to be below the water level so that gravity brought the water to the pump. Keep in mind most pumps don't pull. They push. As you watch a pump in operation it is easy to conclude that they are pulling, but in most cases this is not the case. In fact they are pushing the fluid away so a slight negative pressure is formed behind the pump and the liquid moves to it. Only a smaller percentage of pumps are designed to pull water up as it takes more energy to do this. If you have further questions you can reach the tech department at 888 956 0000

Q:Does one slide 3/8" or 1/2" I.D. flexible hosing over the outlet port for the route to the fountain? Thanks, Anthony

                Answer This Question

A:  Anthony I am sorry for the delay as what my catalogs indicated did not match what the pictures showed. Thus I wanted to get one in hand before I answered you. The pump has a 1/4" male thread discharge. But it comes with a valve you screw on to that discharge that has a barb on the other side. The barb has a double tapper. So you have the option of 3/8 or 1/2 inside diameter tubing. If you use the smaller the velocity of the discharge will be higher than if you use 1/2. The same way the water shoots further when you put your thumb over the end of a hose.
