Answer This Question

A:  That is a great question and I sincerely appreciate the opportunity to answer it as I believe it will help others as well as yourself. The truth is what determines the longevity of a sewage pump has more to do without how well it was sized and how thoughtful the installation and adjustment was, than the amount of money spent on the pump. For example when I install a sewage station I size it correctly so the application is falls in the center of the pumps rating curve. I also spend time correctly adjusting the floats for smooth and consistent operation. On large systems I will set the floats so that the pumps are always under water. Meaning I only clear the waste above the pump. By keeping the pumps constantly submerged they do not dry out. This goes a long way to preventing corrosion. By getting the application correct there is little stress on the pump and the life can easily go 20 plus years of vigorous use. Conversely, I have been called in on jobs where very expensive pumps are failing in the first year. Say the float gets stuck and the pump runs constantly. After a few hours of running dry the cooling oil in the pump super heats and the pump fails. So in answer to your question I would not change a pump just because it is old. As the bang you’re hear; that is the sound of the water column slamming the check valve closed when it comes to rest after the pump has shut off.

A:  Pumps do not have one flow rate. All pumps are rated on a curve. On one axis is the flow rate and on the other is the height at which they are pumping. This pump curve in illustrated on the specification sheet. A PDF of this sheet is under info and guides on the product listing page. It shows form 0-5' the pump will move 120 GPM, at 10' it will pump 70 GPM , at 20' it will pump 30 GPM and at 25' it will Dead Head meaning all the pumps power is being used to lift the water and flow drops to zero. Typically it is the best practice to choose a pump that will be in the center of its pump curve in the given application.

Q:is this model grind solids and tissue?
          by|May 29, 2017

          Answer This Question

A:  This is an effluent pump not a grinder. Grinders actually have teeth that chew up solids and semi solids. This has advantages but also the disadvantage of the teeth dulling over time, This is an effluent pump. Effluent is in many ways a category of pump. In this design the volute is larger. The spinning propeller creates a negative pressure that draws in waste and sends it on its way. It makes little to no contact with the waste. I know that is counter intuitive and hare to envision. The solids and semi solids are pumped away as a whole. When installed and sized properly they can run for decades. However a rouge toy soldier flushed down the toilet can bind them up.

            Answer This Question

A:  The pump portion of the product is the same. However the model 10SN-CIA-SFS catalog number 511346 is equipped with a integral snap action float switch and the model 10SN-CIA-RF catalog number 511323 is equipped with a piggy back float switch. The different style float switches each have pros and cons depending on the application. If you have questions please feel free to give me a call. Chris 978 651 3301
