A: I'm the person who posed the original question and i am having doubts about both of these answers. The product is advertised as providing a lower weight than traditional fluorescent fixtures but older fixtures weigh in at around 20 lbs. Neither answer is consistent with that and both are arbitrarily round numbers. Does anyone have access to company documentation with a specification?

A: They are designed to be installed in grid ceilings, if your grid ceiling is properly installed it should not be an issue. However, at least wherever I have worked the code calls for all lights to be separately supported (i.e. tied to the structure with wire similar to how the grid is supported). The wire is not intended to be holding the fixture exactly in place, it is to ensure if, for example someone working in the ceiling fell and pulled the Tbar the fixtures would not fall to the ground/disconnect from their power cord. Similarly in the event of a fire the fire department can pull the grid down to prevent it falling on top of them.

Answer This Question
A: Please visit our website, www.acuitybrands.com. Search by the product family name. For example, "2GTL". Click on this fixture on the results and then find the Photometry / Design Tools link. This will have a Design tool where you can input dimensions of the room. This will calculate the lumens provided by the fixture with your room size and provide a recommendation for spacing/ layout.
Thank you for your question.
