Questions and Answers for Kwikset Tustin Polished Brass Entry Door Handle Featuring SmartKey Security

A:  The levers are reversible to fit both left-hand and right-hand doors. The levers will point away from the door edge.

A:  The set screw that holds the lever on the shaft is pre-installed in the lever shaft. Please open the door and put the lever in the unlocked position. Once you slide the lever on the shaft, insert the 3/32 allen wrench in the hole on the side of the lever to tighten the lever on. If the set screw is missing, please contact our Support Team for further assistance at 1-800-327-5625.

A:  I don’t sell parts. Make sure the set screw is still inside the handle. This has happened to me and I thought I lost the screw but it was still inside. I reattached the handle and tightened the screw.

A:  Yes. It is unclear from the online description. My sets are keyed on the outside and have an inside handle of the same style and finish with a button you turn to lock the set from the inside. Hope this helps.

A:  The Tustin lever will remain locked when locked from either the key or turn piece, even when you push down on the lever. To unlock the lever, you must rotate the turn piece horizontal on the interior or use the key on the exterior.

A:  Yes it does. You have to unlock it to open the door. Nice so you don't accidently lock yourself out.

A:  To reverse the levers on Kwikset model #740TNL 514 SMT please use a 3/32 Allen wrench to remove the inside and outside levers so they can be flipped around.

A:  The instructions have an X through the picture of the handle upside down. I don't think it is reversable.

A:  This is a universal handle.

A:  Kwikset model # 740TNL 514 SMT includes the fully reversible lever and can be installed on both right-handed and left-handed doors.

A:  It is reversible for left or right hand entry. There is a small knob in the center of the inside lever handle. That knob is turned 90* to lock or unlock the handle. The strike plate is standard size. I replaced and existing lock set and I did not have to trim the recess in the jam, nor did I have any spots to fill with putty. It was a perfect fit. A:  The interior lever handle comes with a turn-piece for rotating to lock/unlock manually. The included strike plate has a dimension of 2 ¼” by 1 ¾”.

A:  No. You will have to pay a little extra and buy the Smart key handles. Then you can have just one key for all your handles. I wanted to do this also at my house. 1 key instead of 4. I bought one handle set at a time instead of all 4 so the cost was broke up somewhat.

A:  Kwikset manufactures keyed alike units that are up to 6 boxes to a pallet. The SmartKey technology allows rekeying the lock at any time to the other Kwikset key. The model number on the package K2, K3, K4, K6 would indicate the number of locksets that have the same key.

A:  No, I don't think that is possible from Home Depot online. I ordered several, and there was no option anywhere during ordering to specify to key them alike. There were no notes, or special instructions, or options during ordering, or anything to specify that. However, any locks with the SmartKey feature can be easily rekeyed by you to match whatever Kwikset keyway key that you want. So if you have eight SmartKey levers all keyed different, YOU can key them all the same to one of the keys. Then you'll have a bunch of extra keys that you can use in the future to rekey again if you want, and you'll only have two keys that match all your levers unless you get copies made at a locksmith. I think you could also rekey them to match any other Kwikset keyway lock (including Baldwin and Black and Decker), regardless if it has the SmartKey or not, but I have not tried this.

A:  The only way the set screw could be missing is if you physically removed it with your 3/32 Allen wrench. To verify if the set screw is, in fact, missing, with the lever removed from the shaft, please insert your 3/32 Allen wrench into the access hole and if it comes out of the other end, the set screw is missing. But if it does not come out of the other end, then the set screw is still inside the shaft. From there you would just place the lever back on to the shaft, making sure the access hole in the lever itself is facing the door hinges. Then insert your 3/32 Allen wrench and tighten the set screw making sure the lever is nice and snug.

A:  So I've yet to see the answer to this question regarding what size that set screw is. We've lost ours as well - no, not from taking the 3/32 Allen wrench and unscrewing it, but from use? Can someone please tell me the exact specifications on that set screw for the handle so I can get a replacement? Thank you.

A:  Yes, it comes with a working pair of keys Or you can use the re-key tool to change it to a different key.
