Answer This Question
A: baking power with a chemical added to make it heavy to settle on the fire to smother it. That's why you should be removed the fire extinguisher from the bracket and shaken to make sure the powder is still loose at least once a month and the pressure gauge should be inspected for the correct pressure.

A: Not Halon!!! A chemical which when discharged will smother the flames without causing toxicity to humans. If you want the name of the chemical, look on th extinguisher bottle.
Q:Does this extinguisher need to be shaken periodically to prevent the chemicals from solidifying?
If so, what interval is appropriate?
There is no mention of chemical solidification risks in the use and maintenance information supplied by Kidde on this site. However, some independent sources cite this as a concern for A/B/C extinguishers. I am confused as to how concerned I should be about this extinguisher not working if all I do is the visual inspections recommended.

A: Yes. Definitely.
I bought one for the boat and one for the house.

A: Hello AV,
It will work for kitchen fires, however, it is not recommended. The kitchen extinguisher is BC only. The "A" portion will stick to heated metal and may result in replacement of the stove.
Any thing with a BC only rating, auto type, or kitchen type will be the preference.

A: It depends on what the extinguisher says is it’s applicable shelve life. ALL extinguishers should be inspected monthly.

A: They should last ten years, commercial places are suppose to inspect them at least once monthly visibly and rotate them to feel the powder moving on the inside, if you can't feel the powder moving, discard and replace with a new one.

A: This unit is good for 6 years. At the end of this time frame, it’s gauge should still read in the green charged area. However, the company has decreed that its product should be replaced every 6 years. A wise individual would follow that advice.
by|Sep 6, 2019
A: Hello Kirk,
If you service the unit every 6 years, the extinguishers has an infinite life.
