Q:We just purchased the Kraus Turino Fireclay sink, would this strainer basket set fit? If not, is there a basket strainer set that would fit?

A:  Since I do not own the sink your talking about I cannot say yes for sure but I originally purchased this strainer set for a Kraus sink and it works great and I believe is a standard size that would fit any standard size sink. My wife really likes this in her double sink as it catches everything not going down the dish disposable side of the sink.

Q:2 questions - I don't see a large nut under the flange - how does it tighten up? and are the plastic threads on the bottom robust enough to handle a brass tail piece nut?

              Answer This Question

A:  Thanks for your inquiry Happy to assist. Please see installation instructions below: Assembling: 1. Slide white washer onto strainer housing. 2. Insert strainer housing with the white washer attached, through the 3.5" drain hole. 3. Slide black washer onto the strainer from underneath the sink. Ribbed side up. 4. Secure the basket strainer locknut onto the strainer. Please note: Plumber's Putty is optional. The white washer can be used in place of Plumber's Putty. In order to seal your strainer, pleasue use Plumber's Putty or the white washer supplied. Although a standard PVC pipe is recommended, a brass tail nut should also be fine. Please feel free to call us at 800-775-0703 or email us at customerservice@kraususa.com with any questions. Happy to assist. Best, Mike Kraus USA

A:  Are you asking how the unit attaches to the sink, if so...there are 2 parts that attach to the sink and inner and outer sleeve. With a rubber seal that fits on top of the sink under the inner piece is threaded and the basket is tightened from the bottom side of the sink to create the seal. Plumbers putty can also be used to provide a more forgiving seal for sinks that may have slight imperfections and reduce the water tite status. It is base stainless steel.

A:  Yes there is a nut under the cup that holds the basket into the sink the only drawback is the cup that goes on the outside under the sink that holds the stainless steel basket into place is plastic but is holding up well

A:  Fwiw, I was able to reseal the existing drain by cleaning off all old putty on the top side , usingvfresh putty and then using new gaskets on the bottom side. Thanks for the answers. I’ll keep this in mind if this lady repair fails.

A:  neither answer addressed what I asked - the photo just shows the tail piece attached which is pretty much self explanatory since all types attach the same way to the tail piece - either via metal or plastic nut. And from the Kraus tech, step number 4 does not explain exactly how the basket strainer is secured to the sink - something has to squeeze the top flange down firmly to either seal the gasket or flatten out the plumbers putty to essential form a putty gasket. Most others I see have a big nut around the basket with nubs that a wrench can grab onto to tighten up the two halves thus making a seal, some have a smaller nut on the tail extension that tightens up to push an outer basket up to the bottom of the sink which then squeezes the top and bottom flanges together to seal the sink opening, and others have a 3 bolt jack screw type arrangement. I see nothing on this to indicate how the bottom is tightened up to form the sink opening seal. One person in a review mentions something about a slotted screw inside the basket housing, but how is that ever installed by one person? somehow one would need exceptionally long arms to hold the basket under the sink while blindly turning the screw from the top, and it would seem very difficult to get enough torque to tighten up a 4.5" diameter flange. an exploded drawing of the parts would be a proper diagram to add to the listing.

A:  Sire, thx! Best answer! Plastic is ok and could be better than a cheap grade of metal. After all most piping in more recent homes is dwv grade pvc and some of the chrome plated brass I’ve come across is so thin you can deform it with finger pressure. Plastic is fine if it’s tough enough.

A:  I have the same question as the original poster and I don't think it was answered. Looking the the picture posted by Grandpa, the question is how does the silver basket tighten to the bottom of the sink. I think the previous answers are about how the basket is attached on the bottom. I my case, there was a hollow brass tube with threading on the outside. You insert it from the inside of the sink, and it pulls the basket to the sink so it has a tight fit. The fitting broke into 2 for me, so I need a replacement. I really just need that fitting. But I don't see it in this kit.

A:  This strainer is about three inches long that's why I got it also (for the extra depth). If it doesn't fit, The Home Depot is very good with returns.

A:  Hello Joe, Thank you for your inquiry. I'm sorry I'm not able to confirm that our basket strainers will fit with another manufacturer's sink. You would have to go by the dimensions listed. Please let me know if you have any other questions. Thank you, Kraus USA

A:  As it is, it probably will not. We have a granite composite/quartz sink and as the strainer comes, it's too short. You either need a longer hollow screw or a shorter gasket ("seal" on the parts list).
